While it has been quite active on the consumer PC and hardware front lately, MSI has now stepped up to offer something a bit different, namely the WindBOX III, a new addition to its WindBOX line and a slim form factor system that seeks to bring embedded applications the benefit of passive cooling and, thus, lack of noise.

Fanless design is something that MSI's WindBOX line has been focusing on but it is hardly the only benefit that this new system brings.

For one, the WindBOX III has, at its heart, an Intel Core 2 Duo central processing unit supported by the Intel GS45 + ICH9M chipset.

This combination of hardware allows for the small form factor and the low power consumption that embedded applications require.

Also, the system features hardware supposedly capable of “great 3D graphics performance for a high definition up to 1080p.”

What's more, Intel clear video technology is available, as is DirectX 10 support, Shader Model 4.0 and the full range of connectivity and I/O options.

The list includes 6 USB 2.0 ports, two powered COM ports, a module with both WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth and, finally, multiple video outputs (DVI-I for VGA and DVI-D, HDMI).

Finally, the newcomer is equipped with a pair of mini-PCIe slots, 4GB of RAM and boasts a so-called “flexible design for easily changing preferred memory/HDD/mini-PCIe devices.”

Basically, this electronic is a capable, slim system with Full HD video support and, for added convenience, compatibility with VESA wall-mounts. Unfortunately, the price of the electronic was not disclosed.

“Followed the fanless design of WindBOX series, MSI debuts the WindBOX III based on the Intel Core 2 Duo processor and the Intel GS45 + ICH9M chipset to provide the latest ultra-low power and slim form factor into solid embedded applications,” states the official announcement.

“Based on endless innovation, MSI keeps providing you more efficient and economical products and being with you to fulfill your demand,” the press release concludes.
