Pictures reveal possible prototype

One of the main issues with all the netbooks currently available on the market is that, despite having been designed for portability, they are not able to deliver enough battery life for users to fully enjoy the benefits of having a netbook. This is all the more true in the case of a 3-cell or a 4-cell battery, which can provide up to 3 hours of battery life at the most, although in reality it's even less than that.

One solution, which most system vendors have already adopted, is to equip their netbooks with a higher-capacity 6-cell battery that will certainly improve the time users get to work on their small-size portable computer system.

Now, say you really need your netbook to run for almost the entire working day, in which case you could use an even higher-capacity battery, a feature that is currently unavailable for any of the existing netbooks. However, according to some pictures made available by the guys over at EeePCNews, Taiwanese manufacturer MSI could soon unveil a new battery option for its Wind netbook. Unlike other solutions, this one will feature 9-cells, which could ultimately bring a considerable boost in terms of the time users spend working on their netbooks.

As you will see in the pictures, the higher-capacity battery takes a toll on the netbook's overall design, making it a little more bulkier at the back. On the bright side, the 9-cell battery could also provide a better typing experience, as it will raise the netbook's keyboard a little higher.

The exact technical specifications and an estimated date release of the pictured prototype aren't currently available. However, should MSI equip its netbook with this large 9-cell battery, we could also be seeing some of those Wind clones out there, like the Akoya Mini, coming with a 9-cell battery upgrade option.
