MSI Wind owners have a reason to cheer, as the company announced the release of an updated BIOS for this mobile machine, one that enables users to operate some changes in their processor's speed. To put it simple, users are able to overclock their mobile machine nice and easy, which is something we do not see every day when it comes to notebooks.

As many of you already know, the mobile machines often adjust the frequency of the processor in order to boost battery life. Users can reduce the speed of the CPU either by lowering the bus speed or the multiplier, but they will then face another undesirable problem. Lowering the frequency usually impacts the performance of the mobile machine in a negative way.

Since Intel's Atom processor has been reported to offer a great potential, Micro Star International offers a way for users to take advantage of it. The speed of the Atom CPU will be boosted by simply pressing Fn+F10, at least this is what news site NordicHardware reports. Thus, the chip can be overclocked to 1728, 1840 or 1984 MHz. Nevertheless, those willing to make this move should take good care, as it is a well known fact that notebooks do not remove heat very well.

Since the frequency of the CPU greatly affects the battery life, the overclocking maneuver is expected to be made only at times when the machine is connected to an outlet. This means that the overclocking will not work when the mobile machine runs on battery, and users should also take into consideration the effect this may have on the battery time.

It is a known fact that other mobile machines to feature overclocking capabilities are on the field as well, and this is not the first we hear about. Nevertheless, manufacturers began perfecting this option and we may see great tools in the near future.
