As it was to be expected, the official debut of Intel's latest Calpella platform for portable computer systems has led to the launch of a number of new laptops that are designed on said platform. Boasting Intel's newest Core i7 processors for the mobile segment, the latest portable PCs from the likes of Alienware, Toshiba and ASUS have jumped on the stage to provide customers with a choice for a high-end portable PC, designed using the latest technologies. On that note, MSI is also looking to officially introduce its line of Core i7-powered gaming laptops, with the debut of two new models, the GT640 and GT740.

Like Alienware, MSI makes good use of Intel's latest platform to develop a system that is designed and aimed at gaming and computer enthusiasts. The processing power of these new Core i7 CPUs is meant to improve gaming performance and enable consumers to take advantage of a better, overall gaming experience. The two are different in terms of display size, with the GT640 offering a 15.4-inch display, while the other boasts a larger 17-inch LCD.

Aside from that, the two MSI gaming notebooks have both been featured with Intel's Core i7 720QM CPU, with a clock speed of 1.6GHz, but capable of going over that thanks to Intel's Turbo Boost technology. In addition, the two laptops have been fitted with no less than 4GB of RAM, combined with NVIDIA's GeForce GTS 250M graphics card and a large 500GB hard drive. As any respectable laptop, the two have also been featured with the usual array of connectivity options, including Gigabit Ethernet, WiFi, HMDI and also a built-in webcam.

Not yet official, the two are expected to become available at the end of next month, sporting a pre-installed copy of Microsoft's upcoming Windows 7 Home Basic operating system. Price-wise, you are looking at spending about 1,400 and 1,500 Euros, respectively.
