MSI took advantage of Nvidia's recent release of the GTX 580M and GTX 570M mobile GPUs, and recently announced the introduction of an updated version of the GT780 gaming notebook, which can now be configured to include GeForce GTX 570M discrete graphics.

Weighting in no less than 3.9Kg, the MSI GT780 is built around a 17.3-inch LED backlit display that is available in both HD+ (1600x900) and Full HD (1920x1080) resolutions.

Under the hood, users will be greeted by one of Intel's fastest mobile Sandy Bridge processors, namely the Core i7-2630QM, which can be seconded by as much as 16GB of DDR3 system memory.

The Core i7-2630QM features four processing cores clocked at a 2GHz base frequency, which can ramp up to 2.9GHz in Turbo mode, 6MB of Level 3 cache memory, HyperThreading support as well as a dual-channel DDR3-1333 integrated memory controller.

As far as storage is concerned, the MSI GT780 can be configured to feature two 320GB 5400RPM hard drives, or an Intel 120GB SSD combined with a 750GB HDD, which has a spindle speed of 7200RPM.

A DVD burner also complements the standard version of the GT780, but users can also opt for a Blu-ray drive if they so desire.

As mentioned previously, graphics is handled by an Nvidia-built discrete GPU, either the standard GTX 560M or the optional GTX 570M, while the audio sub-system is comprised of two regular speakers and a Dynaudio subwoofer.

The rest of the features list includes a LED backlit illuminated keyboard developed in collaboration with SteelSeries, a pair of USB 3.0 ports, eSATA and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity, HDMI 1.4 and VGA video outputs as well as a 9-cell battery pack.

Right now, MSI hasn't provided any information regarding the price, or the release date, of the new laptop, but we can assume that the MSI GT780 will reach retail shelves sometime in August or September, right in time for the back to school season. (via Notebook Italia)
