Seeing how it has been so active on the gaming and enthusiast fronts lately, Micro-Star International has now decided to refresh its multimedia and entertainment mobile PC offer by adding the CX705MX to its portfolio. Coming to increase the Classic series, the laptop strives to combine a lightweight, “stylishly elegant body, graced with MSI's own cross hatch design” with good audio and visual performance.

The up-priced MSI CX705MX is powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo central processing unit and the SiS 672 DX + SiS 968 chipset. The processor is backed by DDR2 667/800MHz memory, while graphcis capabilities are supplied by the so-called ATi Radeon HD 545V, which has 512MB DDR2 VRAM, and is most likely a rebranded Radeon HD 5450. The screen is a 17.3-inch LCD with a maximum resolution of 1,600 x 900 (19:9 aspect ratio). As for storage, the company offer a choice among 2.5-inch SATA hard drives of 250GB, 320GB and 500GB.

When it comes to connectivity and I/O, the multimedia laptop boasts a four-in-one card reader, three USB 2.0 ports, Mic-in, headphone-out, an HDMI output, a Kensington lock port and a 1.3-megapixel webcam. There is also, predictably, 802.11 b/g/ draft N WiFi and Bluetooth V2.1 support, for wireless connectivity to the web or other electronics. Finally, the notebook is built with two speakers and a sub-woofer.

“MSI Marketing Director Sam Chern points out that the CX705MX comes equipped with the ATi Radeon HD 545V discrete graphics card for excellent multimedia performance and that, despite the oversized screen, this notebook is a lightweight, tipping the scales at less than 3kg. Add to that the stylishly elegant body, graced with MSI's own cross hatch design, the CX705MX allows you and your friends to enjoy an audio/visual feast whenever and wherever you like,” the press release notes.
