One might think that Micro-Star International would sit back and watch the effect of its highly overclockable dual-GPU NVIDIA card, but it looks like it has more in store, namely both AMD and NVIDIA models for the high-end segment immediately beneath the top tier.

Not long ago, NVIDIA officially introduced the GeForce GTX 590, its first dual-GPU graphics adapter with support for DirectX 11.

Needless to say, its various partners were quick in officially launching their own versions.

Micro-Star International, of course, did not sit idly by, having even used its technology to make it possible to overclock said adapter by up to 38% (the two GF110 GPUs can go as high as 840 MHz).

Now, the same outfit has issued another press release, one meant to deal with two other boards, this time for the high-end.

While the dual-GPU beasts are mighty, they won't really be bought by anyone except top-tier enthusiasts.

Granted, the rest of the high-end market isn't that large compared to the mainstream, but it still has many more customers. To appeal to them, MSI created the N580GTX Lightning and the R6970 Lightning.

Being intended for extreme overclocking, they feature the Twin Frozr III dual-fan cooler, which boasts Propeller Blade fans to disperse heat much better than the stock cooler would (GPU temperature is 21 /26 degrees C lower).

As was the case with the GTX 590, MSI has a special page dealing with the Lightning boards, where it details their assets.

Among other things, Military Class II components are used (for stability), as well as Triple Overvoltage by Afterburner.

“All of these come together to make the N580GTX/R6950 Lightning the ultimate graphic cards for extreme overclocking,” says the company.

As a final advantage, for enthusiasts mostly, Dual Bios and XtremeCool3 switches will let one more confidently set up cooling solutions based on liquid nitrogen.
