MSI, one of the world's leading vendors of computer hardware and portable computer systems, has announced today the debut of another gaming laptop, also designed to provide customers with a choice for Intel's latest, high-end notebook platform. Following the introduction of the GT640 gaming laptop, the Taiwanese company has decided to also introduce the GT740, a 17-inch laptop that will provide customers with the performance offered by Intel's Core i7 mobile processors.

Based on the PM55 chipset, the new machine appears to be the bigger brother of the GT640, which the company announced late last week. The laptop will provide gaming enthusiast with the power of Intel's latest Core i7 processors, combined with an NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250M graphics card and 1GB of DDR3 VRAM. Furthermore, it can be configured with a maximum of 4GB of DDR3 memory and a high-capacity 500GB 2.5-inch hard disk drive.

Additional features include a 17-inch display, a 2MP webcam, Gigabit Ethernet LAN, wireless 802.11 b/g/draft n, optional Bluetooth, 4-in-1 memory card reader, a choice for a Super-Multi DVD or a Blu-ray optical drive, three USB 2.0 ports, HMDI port, D-SUB and an e-SATA port. As it has been designed for gamers, the keyboard on the GT740 has been featured with red labeled W, A, S, and D keys, which are among the most used keys in the majority of gaming applications.

According to MSI, the laptop has been designed to weigh 3.2 kg with battery, which makes it easier to carry around, when compared to other 17-inch systems. The machine measures 395 x 278 x 33-39mm and can be configured with either a 6-cell or a 9-cell battery pack. Expected to come with Microsoft's upcoming Windows 7 operating system, the new gaming laptop from MSI will likely be a choice for gaming enthusiasts, but also for those who are looking for a powerful laptop that can be used as a desktop replacement.
