The obsession with smartwatches and wearable products is headed towards a whole new level. You think smartwatches are way too bulky and bracelets too plasticky for your style?

Well, do not worry, you can also opt for a smart ring. In the past few months, we have been detailing a bunch of new products from the category, but we are yet to actually see such a device make it out into the wild and on retail shelves.

Anyway, wearable manufacturers seem to be convinced smart rings are a good idea, even if we are quite skeptic of the actual consumer demand for such devices (well, the same goes for smartwatches).

MOTA is a company that’s no stranger to the wearable world, and in an earlier piece we told you about the SmartWatch G2, which is quite a bizarre product.

Basically, the G2 has a built-in mic and comes equipped with support for Siri and Google Now. We’re not sure how this integration actually works in real life, as we’re yet to test this device out.

Anyway, today we’re here to talk about a new wearable coming out from MOTA. As you might have guessed it, the company has a smart ring up its sleeve. It has simply entitled it the SmartRing, which is a little gizmo capable of delivering notifications on your finger.

The SmartRing is supposed to display notifications in text form and users will be able to scroll through messages at different speeds. What MOTA is betting on with this product is discretion.

Maybe you’d like to go out for dinner and not make your partner aware when you receive a notification on your wrist.

The company says the SmartRing provides a more discrete means of being kept up to date with everything happening around you, as it offers users the choice of enabling and disabling audible and tactile alerts. It also displays time.

The device will be compatible with Android and iOS environments and will also deliver notifications form social media like Facebook and Twitter.

The device will be launched in North America, but we have yet to be told what price it will sell for. We have already told you we are yet to see a smart ring in the wild, but MOTA says it will show off the SmartRing this week on the grounds in Berlin.

Keep checking back with us, as we bring you news of the hottest wearable available this season.
