It is only a fourth of the size of normal laptop bricks but can recycle energy

Energy efficiency is great for the environment, but it's great for us too if we want our power bill to be as low as possible. MIT is more than happy to oblige.

Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have created a laptop adapter that is a fourth of the size of normal ones.

What's important, however, is the new circuit design within, which not only enables the compactness but also captures and recycles energy that is normally lost in typical circuitry.

Thus, the adapter can run at higher frequencies than normal adapters too (30 MHz and 300 MHz — a thousand times faster than conventional adapters).

Startup company FINsix will be making the 65W adapter. Since it uses a USB port, it can charge phones and tablets in addition to laptops.
