All women must have had at least once in their lifetime what is known under the generic term of “a bad hair day.” For many, this can mean one of those days when the humidity in the air is so high, absolutely none of the hair products they apply can stop it from getting frizzy. Especially for them, Living Proof and MIT Professor Robert Langer have created a special line that promises to put an end to frizz.

The hair loses shape and becomes frizzy when it rains or the humidity in the air is above certain limits. This happens, the Professor tells the British media, because moisture gets in the hair shaft and expands it, which, in turn, means the more damaged the hair, the more frizz. Products currently available on the market, no matter which company makes them or how expensive they are, are all based on silicone. This is also why they fail to work as promised, as the silicone does nothing in terms of keeping moisture away.

The new line from Living Proof is conceived differently than similar products, in that it uses a man-made water repellent, PolyFluoroEster, to coat every single hair individually, and thus keep moisture away from it. Also important is that, in doing so, these new products do not make the hair heavier or greasy-looking and -feeling. Another advantage, as if the above were not enough, is that they don’t come with absurd price tags, being available in the US for prices of up to $24 for a bottle. The UK will probably get the anti-frizz line next year.

“Humidity is hair’s number one enemy. It expands the hair shaft and that is why you get frizz. And the more damaged your hair is, the more porous. If you color-treat or use heated appliances, it damages the hair and frizz is more of a problem. Our material seals the hair with a thin coating and prevents humidity from going in and out, solving the problem of frizz at its root.” Living Proof says of the revolutionary product line.

Professor Langer shares that he came up with the idea when he realized that, if he could find “solutions to the toughest medical challenges,” then he certainly could do something about frizz as well. Thus, his collaboration with Living Proof came to be. “Frizz is one of the most frustrating of all hair problems. We have had so many emails from people saying solving it has changed their lives. Having great hair lifts a woman’s spirits.” the maker of the new product line adds.
