MEGA users on iOS are getting a handy photo-syncing feature to automatically send their photos to the cloud for easy access in the future, as well as an added layer of security.

Mega Limited today rolled out MEGA 1.1, the first major update for Kim Dotcom’s cloud app.

Version 1.1 brings a much-needed PhotoSync feature which automatically sends the photos you take with your iPhone to MEGA’s cloud servers. In other words, you no longer have to do this by hand now.

“You can use WiFi or cellular connection and by enabling Background mode the app will upload photos when your location changes significantly,” Mega Ltd. says.

For those who are concerned about security, MEGA now offers a passcode lock which requires a four-digit passcode to be entered every time the app is opened.

“This will protect your files even if your iPhone falls into the wrong hands,” according to the developers.

Users can set their MEGA client to erase all data and log out of the service after ten unsuccessful attempts of entering the password, just to make sure your data doesn’t end up on someone else’s hard drive. The update also includes bug fixes and speed improvements.

MEGA comes with a whopping 50GB of free storage simply by signing up to use the service. You won’t be charged a dime. However, you can upgrade your storage quota and bandwidth by getting MEGA Pro with a monthly or yearly subscription, via in-app purchase.

Subscriptions are €9.99 (US$10.99) per month or €99.99 (US$119.99) per year for 500 GB of storage space and 1000 GB of bandwidth per month.

MEGA 1.1 is localized in dozens of different languages and requires iOS 6 (or newer) to work. Download MEGA 1.1 and give it a shot today.
