A new show about the regular life of one of the biggest stars of yesterday

Reality television has clearly taken to an entirely different direction than the one that was initially mapped with shows such as “Big Brother.” These days, most celebrities also have a reality show on their own, even if it’s been years that they have officially “retired” from the spotlight. Rapper MC Hammer is by no means an exception to this, as A&E has just announced that he will be bringing “Hammertime,” a new reality show, to our television screen.

“Hammertime,” it seems, will have nothing to do with the glitzy lifestyle that MC Hammer was leading back in the days when “U Can’t Touch This” was still reigning supreme at the top of the charts. It will, instead, focus on the normal aspects of MC Hammer’s life, such as raising his kids, going to church (he has found religion since he was pushed from the spotlight by the media) and running chores around the house. For those interested, “Hammertime” comes to replace “The Two Coreys.”

“Here’s a dad with five kids, married to the same woman for more than 23 years, living in the same place where he grew up and going to church every Sunday. He’s had his ups and downs, and it’s what makes him such a character you root for.” executive producer J.D. Roth tells TheLiveFeed on the new show. Robert Sharenow, senior VP alternative at A&E, clearly feels the same: “MC Hammer is an iconic figure in American pop culture, but many people only know him for his music and fashion sense. Now A&E takes an unprecedented look behind his larger-than-life personality and into his life as a devoted husband, father and business entrepreneur.”

In other MC Hammer news, the rapper is about to join his former chart rival, Vanilla Ice, for a one-night-only special joint gig in at the McKay Events Center in Orem, Utah. Apparently, the idea for this more-than-special gig came to the two now-retired rappers thanks to their longstanding friendship, but also as a means to thank the fans who have continued to support them to this day.

“Here’s how it will all go down: Hammer is bringing 24 dancers and a full choir; Ice is bringing… himself as far as we can tell. It is evidently the pair’s first show together since the early 1990s, when both were whole-scale radio stars.” Rolling Stone wrote at the time of the announcement. The gig will take place on February 27 at the aforementioned venue, with admission prices ranging from $29.50 for general to $35.50 for reserved seating.
