The fact that the world's smallest mobile phone is actually a watch which encloses mobile communication capabilities is not surprising anyone. SMS Technology Australia has developed the M500 device some while ago and attracted the attention of many handset users.

There are many watches which also enclose mobile phones out there, although the M500 is a pretty special one. Not only is this the world's smallest mobile phone, but it also features an appealing design and has successfully avoided the bulky look that similar devices have.

Cramming telecom performances in such a small case is not an easy task, especially as the M500 manages to do it in a stylish and slim way. The device comes with a full metal strap bracelet and a look that could make even the design of some regular watches fade in front of it.

This watch phone is only 60 grams heavy and comes with a 1.5 inch TFT touch screen meant to provide the maximum amount of functionality without needing any buttons to enter data. M500 also has a stylus for precise menu navigation and manages to pack some of the most evolved performances that regular mobile phones are capable of providing.

It has a built-in MP3 and MP4 player, Voice Bluetooth, Data Bluetooth, Pop3 email and 128MB standard memory and U Disk functionality for all JM2E applications. As any respectable watch, this device also has waterproof capabilities that might prove useful under many circumstances.

After several weeks of antenna testing, the M500 watch phone has been improved. Its stylus has been extended two inches more than in the past. The battery has been upgraded and some additional software changes have also been included. This device will now include Pop3 email and instant messaging software.

The M500 phone is currently being manufactured in 250,000 units a month, which proves that people are really enjoying the thought of owning the world's smallest phone. Although the device has been released on several markets until now, the global retail launch will take place in South Africa on September 10th 2007.
