With the focus on energy efficiency being as strong as it is, it is no longer surprising to hear that makers of displays are putting special emphasis on reducing their monitors' power draw, and this is exactly what I-O Data did with its new 21.5-inch LCD.

The new liquid crystal display that the Japan-based I-O Data completed is bears the name of LCD-MF221CBR.

This 21.5-inch monitor may not have stellar specifications, at least as far as the contrast ratio or the brightness is concerned.

Nevertheless, the company still implements a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels, so that any HD and Full HD media may be fully supported.

There is also a brightness of 250 cd/m2, as well as a dynamic contrast ratio (DCR) of 10,000:1, which corresponds to a contrast ratio of 1,000:1.

This DCR is not exactly on par with the 20,000,000:1 that other displays have been known to have, and the brightness is not near the 400 cd/m2 of competitors.

Still, the fact remains that, more than actual image quality and performance, this monitor was designed in such a way as to eat up little electricity.

To that end, the maximum power consumption during normal operation is of 18.3W, while the more visually-demanding applications may push the figure to 27W.

This is made possible mainly by the use of LED backlights, which have practically become the standard for any LCD.

The rest of the product's feature set includes a response time of 5ms, a pair of built-in 1W speakers and a 3.5mm audio jack and multiple display inputs. Said connectors are a D-Sub, a DVI and an HDMI port.

Unfortunately, no mention was made regarding any sort of pricing details, but the newcomer should start shipping next month, so this final bit of information should come out soon.
