Espoo, Finland-based mobile phone maker Nokia announced today the launch of a new device, namely Nokia X2. The latest addition to the Xseries lineup has been unveiled officially in India, and was expected to arrive on the market before the end of June. The new Nokia X2 might not pack the same features as the recently unveiled Nokia N8 does, but it should prove a nice option for those interested in the purchase of an affordable handset.

Although included in the same series as the Nokia X3 and the Nokia X6, the new Nokia mobile phone does not sport too many similarities with its older brothers. The X2 comes in a candybar form factor, boasting a 2.2-inch screen that delivers a QVGA resolution, and an alphanumeric keypad, while being only 13mm thin and weighing in at 81 grams. The handset comes with a 5-megapixel photo snapper with video recording capabilities.

The specifications list of the new device includes a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 16GB of additional storage space, Bluetooth 2.1, 3.5mm headphone jack, dual speakers, dedicated music keys, and USB 2.0 port for fast transfer of files. Music fans opting for this device will have the option of managing their songs easily via the Ovi Player PC client or Windows Media Player 11.

In addition to the music features, the Nokia X2 also comes with direct access to Facebook straight from its homescreen, and was packed with Nokia Messaging, offering support for both email and Instant Messaging. Not to mention that users will enjoy access to Ovi Store, where they will find a wild variety of apps available for download.

The Nokia X2 should arrive on the market with a price tag of €85 before taxes and subsidies. So far, Nokia hasn't provided specific details on the countries where the new device is set to be put on sale, though emerging markets will be the main target for sure.
