The pooch was rushed to a hospital, got scared and coughed the watch up

Folks who are lucky enough to share a home with a dog – maybe even more – are probably all too familiar with the fact that these four-legged friends of ours usually have an appetite fit for kings and queens.

The only problem is that, every once in a while, this appetite can get them in a whole lot of trouble. For those who doubt it, the story of how a pooch named Charlie ate its owner's watch should be enough to put things in an entirely new light.

According to Mirror, it was not too long ago that Terry Morgan, who is a pub landlord, noticed that his £500 (roughly €631 / $848) had disappeared without a trace. The man looked for it for a while, but eventually gave up hope.

Luckily, this wristwatch, featured in the photo above, was no ordinary time-teller. On the contrary, it was set to ring every day at precisely 10:55 p.m., when Terry Morgan was supposed to go around telling people in the pub to place their last order.

The 66-year-old pub landlord says that, sometime after the wristwatch's sudden and mysterious disappearance, he heard the alarm go off from somewhere very close to his pet dog, Charlie. The man first assumed he pooch was sitting on the watch.

However, he soon realized that the alarm was actually ringing from inside the dog. He thus figured out that his wristwatch had not simply abandoned him without even bothering to leave a note, but had instead been eaten by Charlie.

“At first I thought he was lying on it. Only when I rolled him over did I realize it was inside him. The watch was set to go off at 10:55pm to remind me to call last orders,” 66-year-old Terry Morgan of Devon, UK, told the press in an interview.

Shortly after figuring out what had happened, the pub landlord rushed Charlie to a local vet. It was first believed that the pooch would have to undergo surgery. However, as soon as it came face to face with a needle, Charlie willingly returned the wristwatch to its rightful owner.

“I rushed him to the vet for an emergency operation and was a bit ticked off because that would have cost me about £1,000 [€1,263 / $1,697]. But when Charlie saw the anesthetic needle he howled with fright and coughed the watch up,” Terry Morgan said.

Both Charlie and the wristwatch are now in good health condition. Hopefully, it will be some time before the pooch goes snacking on its owner's personal belongings again, especially since it might not get away with it without surgery the next time.
