The change of tone that the upcoming Lost Planet 3 offers when compared to the previous installment in the series might be jarring to some gamers, but one of the leading developers working on the game believes that fans need to give the new title a chance and see what it has to offer.

Andrew Szymanski, a producer working on Lost Planet 3 and a studio leader at Capcom in Tokyo, tells VG247 that, “The key feedback we’ve received from members of the press and public, that have actually played our demos at E3 and at Gamescom, is that they really enjoy the new direction we’re taking, and that they understand the concept.”

“That concept is that we’re keeping the core pillars of the Lost Planet franchise intact while arranging them in a new way,” he goes on to say.

The developer acknowledges that there are long-term fans of Lost Planet who do not like the changes made for the most recent game.

He added, “The important thing to note is that we have the Capcom Osaka franchise team that made the first two games helping to guide the process to make sure that it remains true to what fans expect.”

Szymanski says that the opinion of fans is very important to the development team and that they will try to better communicate how the changes they are making are improving the gameplay.

Lost Planet 3 is a prequel to the entire series and cast the player as Jim, a prospector who is looking to make money on E.D.N. III in order to support his family.

The new game will mix the traditional shooter elements of the franchise with a new layer of mech-based action.

Lost Planet 3 will be launched during 2013 on the PC, the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3.
