When it comes to independent singers, there's none more adamant about her personality than the New Zealand singer Lorde, who has just revealed that she turned down Katy Perry's offer to perform on her world tour as an opening act.

Speaking to an Australian radio station last week, Lorde made the confession that she didn't like to be anyone's opening act and she was struggling to become a powerful artist in her own right.

“In the really early stages of an artist's career, it's important for them to establish themselves for themselves. I'm just basically really stubborn and I want to be really independent,” she said in the interview and concluded that “So I want to be headlining my own shows instead of supporting someone else. Which I think is fair enough.”

Granted, Lorde is still a teenager so she's at that age where she's keen on sticking it out and making it on her own, eager to prove to the world and to herself what she's capable of. Her decision shows that she's not currently influenced by her label in the decision-making process.

So far, she's doing great, having sold out her tour in the US, which means that Katy will have to find some other acts to sing at the beginning of her concerts. The ones that have been announced include Icona Pop, Capital Cities, Kacey Musgraves and Tegan and Sara.
