Jesse, a ginger tomcat, escaped from his cage and ran away eight years ago because he didn't like injections. Now, the cat has been reunited with his family after reappearing at the same vet's surgery he went missing from in 2006.

The cat was only 18 months old when he decided to smash out of his box and vanished in the street.

Owner Lesley Corbett and her family searched the area for days after the incident and put up missing cat posters all over the city, but no luck. At one point, they gave up hope of ever seeing Jesse again.

Much to their surprise, the cat turned up alive and kicking last week at the same vet he had run away from. The vet called the family and told them a client had brought the cat to his office after he noticed it hanging around his house.

“We have no idea where Jesse had been for eight years but we are so happy to have him back. We really thought there was no way he would come back after this long,” Ms. Corbett said, according to the Express.

The family has been reunited with their pet thanks to a microchip. The vet was able to identify the owners of the cat after reading his microchip. He is now back at home with his family at Mow Cop, Staffordshire.

“At first he didn't appear to recognize us. But now that he's been in the same house with everyone for a week, he's beginning to realize who we are,” Jesse's owner added.
