The device takes advantage of 4-step zone focusing

Once upon a time there was the Lomography Lomo LC-A camera which ruled supreme in the field of creativity, but this week the company behind the device is pushing out its successor in the form of the LC-A 120.

Lomography has been an interesting presence on Kickstarter where it has been gathering the necessary funds to send its projects into completion.

The new LC-A 120 comes as a limited edition

Now, the company is back with a new “limited edition” camera which goes by the name of LC-A 120. Following the footsteps of the LC-A and LC-Wide cameras, the newcomer will also be able to deliver interesting contrasts, glowing tones and atypical vignetting.

Even if most photographers use the standard 16:9 standard ratio provided by digital cameras, there’s still plenty of room for trying out new things like, for example, taking square images on 120 film.

It’s interesting that Lomography tells us “don’t think, just shoot” inviting users to abandon themselves to the creative endeavor. The idea is that artistic photography does not necessarily have to include the presence of a DSLR. With a little imagination you can go a long, long way.

The LC-A 120 arrives to fill this void and has been launched as the “most compact and automatic 120 film camera ever.” It falls in the medium format category.

Focusing is performed exclusively manually and is achieved in four steps, each related to a certain zone. It all starts at 60 centimeters, then it goes up to 1 meter, 2.5 meters and on to forever.

The Lomography LC-A 120 enjoys multiple exposure support and long exposures are thrown in the mix too, as well as rear curtain flash.

The LC-A 120 is one of the most compact automatic cameras

Quite important to note is that the device is an “automatic” camera which translates into the fact that you’ll be able to program the device to snap photos at certain times. Lomography offers cable release, which comes in handy if you are planning to use a tripod.

The new sapper takes advantage of a 38mm f/4.5 Minigon XL lens with a 35mm focal length equivalent of 21mm.

The LC-A 120 should support 120 roll films with ISO sensitivies ranging between 100 and 1600. Shutter speeds range from 1/ 500 the of a second to infinity, so you’ll have to be attentive to how long you press the shutter button.

For the time being, Lomography says the LC-A 120 is up for pre-order, but since it will be a “limited edition” model, you better hurry up if you want to get your hands on one. It will be released in only 500 units for the time being and will cost you $429 / €333 a pop.
