Logitech just released its latest development - the Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5000 Laser, featuring Bluetooth 2.0 Enhanced Data Rate (EDR) wireless technology and a built-in LCD on the keyboard, which is able to display e-mail and instant message (IM) notifications, playlists and Internet radio stations, informs Hardware Zone.

Bluetooth 2.0 EDR offers three times the common data transfer rate between two devices and Logitech's Cordless Desktop MX 5000 Laser is also backward compatible with other devices that use older implementations of Bluetooth.

As the manufacturer implemented this year a real innovative design - the two-handed navigation, Logitech's Cordless Desktop MX 5000 Laser mouse and keyboard have been developed to feature this 'politically correct' design. Furthermore, the keyboard's left-hand side consists of touch-sensitive media controls such as Play/Pause, Stop, Forward, Back, Mute, and a Media button.

"Logitech introduced the world's first mouse-and-keyboard combination in 1998 with the goal of removing cord clutter from the desk," said Denis Pavillard, Logitech vice president of product marketing for desktops. "We succeeded in delivering on that vision, and we are now addressing a different kind of clutter - cleaning up the mess of notifications and information that are displayed on the computer monitor. The Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5000 Laser desktop pushes that information to a peripheral screen so that people can choose when to glance at their notifications and status information, and can therefore clear their monitors - and their minds."

The Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5000 Laser features the award-winning Logitech MX1000 Cordless Laser Mouse, which has embedded a tracking technology that is used to 'perceive' many more details than a usual mouse - an optical mouse with a red light-emitting diode (LED). More precisely, the MX laser engine's sensor is able to capture 5.8 megapixels of detail each second.

The stylish keyboard features only 22.3 mm in height when placed on a flat surface and benefits from an enhanced Logitech Zero Degree Tilt keyboard design, which means the rows of keys have all the same height.

The Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5000 Laser is available now for a recommended retail price of $279.
