Logitech has announced its first Mac-ready webcam today. The Logitech QuickCam Vision Pro webcam for Mac offers detail, clarity and good support for video calling with iChat and Skype, using premium autofocus technology and Carl Zeiss optics.

Carl Zeiss optics and autofocus keep images razor-sharp, even in extreme close-ups, the company says, while Logitech's glass lens, designed in collaboration with Carl Zeiss, offer more detail and clarity. Carl Zeiss, as Aperture users surely know, is the global leader in camera optics. There's more, of course.

Logitech's QuickCam Vision Pro is capable of delivering 720p high-quality images up to 1600 X 1200 pixels (Capture VGA video with Photo Booth and QuickTime PRO, or capture up to 2-megapixel images - including 720p - with UVC based applications like BTV PRO). The quality 2-megapixel sensor further ensures image quality, while the RightLight 2 technology intelligently adjusts the image to optimize it in dim or backlighted situations.

Last, but not least, the Mac-compatible webcam also sports an integrated microphone for hands-free audio. Speaking of compatibility, iChat or Skype are a go for Logitech's QuickCam Vision Pro offering up to 30 FPS VGA quality. Most instant messaging applications are also supported. The makers claim the device mounts easily on any type of display and even on notebook computers.

"With this new webcam for Mac computers, we've integrated our most advanced video technologies to truly enrich your video-calling experience," said Gina Clark, general manager and vice president of Logitech's Internet Communications business unit. "The lens and autofocus, the sensor and the lighting software all contribute to create image-perfect detail and clarity. Whether you've used a standalone or an embedded webcam in the past, you'll be amazed at the difference in quality our new webcam makes."

Logitech's QuickCam Vision Pro for Mac is priced at 129.99 USD. See the company's web site for more information on how you can buy one.
