It seems that even amidst the releases of new video cards and tablets there are those companies that casually deliver their own products, in this case an external storage unit.

Though the idea of external storage is not nearly a new one, it went through the same short period of skepticism in its very early days.

After that, NAND Flash chips started to gain traction and a lot of flash drives began to get released.

At the same time, companies began to experiment with what it would take to make even hard disk drives into external units.

Once they decided to use the 2.5-inch form factor, the same one used by laptop storage devices, the market skyrocketed.

Still, there are those external drives that do not feature the portable 2.5-inch form factor, being more bent on delivering actual storage space.

The newest product from Logitec is one such device, namely an external hard disk drive (HDD), part of the Premium Series.

It measures 35 x 183 x 120 mm and communicates with host PCs via the USB 2.0 interface, while also providing backwards compatibility with USB 1.1 ports.

Granted, this means that the high transfer rates of USB 3.0 is not an asset, but it also means the price is lower than it otherwise would have been.

It also has a power consumption of 10W and a total storage capacity of a full 2TB, which is not at all unimpressive for an external HDD, or any HDD for that matter.

It is also said to possess an award-winning design that provides good ventilation both when standing upright or horizontally, without the use of any sort of fans (is passively-cooled).

All in all, it weighs 850 grams and costs about $167 while being backed up by a one-year warranty. Unfortunately, it is only available for sale in Japan, at least for now.
