It will work great for people who have unused laptop HDDs lying about

Logitech is a Swiss company known for its extensive collection of peripherals, especially gaming-oriented mice, keyboards and audio products, while Logitec is a different company, from Japan, one that decided to create something for the storage market.

It seems that Logitec went ahead and created an external drive enclosure meant to house storage units designed with the 2.5-inch form factor.

The product has a more or less unassuming exterior, with no such things as rounded edges or unusual color schemes or decorations.

Also, the interface used is, likewise, not exactly monumental in terms of performance, being more oriented towards wide compatibility.

In other words, while the product can house any hard disk drive or solid state drive built with the SATA interface, it only connects to host PCs via the USB 2.0 port.

This makes the newcomer quite a bit less speedy than the now more or less many portable HDDs and enclosures designed with USB 3.0.

For those interested in a reminder, the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard can work at transfer rates of up to 5 Gbps.

USB 2.0 settles for 480 Mbps, but this should still be enough, especially knowing that the enclosure will finally give some use to whatever spare HDDs users may have lying around.

The case weighs 40 grams when empty and is backwards compatible with USB 1.1 connectors, so as to allow even older PCs to communicate with it.

Sales will, according to reports, commence sometime this month, around the end of November, 2010, to be exact, for the very accessible price of $12.

Users will even be able to use it with so-called hybrid drives, in addition to just 2.5-inch hard disk drives and solid state drives, and may carry it around in a pocket or whatever bag they may have whenever they need to go traveling and/or transfer data from one PC to another.
