Logic Instruments has just revealed that it has completed development of its latest, ruggedized tablet PC designed for demanding applications. Strong, reliable, resistant and versatile are the key features of the new product and are achieved through a combination of capable internal circuitry and a strong outer shell. Known as the FieldBook, the tablet comes in no less that 15 different configurations and will be useful in performing such tasks as field computing, maintenance and communication, military command and control, field maintenance and monitoring, inventory control, logistics and portable tests, among other things.

The standard FieldBook is powered by an Intel Atom CPU, with a clock speed of 1.6Ghz, features 2GB RAM, a G-sensor protected HDD 9120GB), the Intel GMA 500 integrated graphics and a sunlight-readable 7-inch WVGA resistive glovetouch screen. All these components are kept running by dual 2,500 mAh hot swappable batteries, which enable a battery life of up to 5 hours.

The system configuration comes pre-installed with Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7 and is enclosed in a sturdy magnesium alloy chassis measuring 22.5 cm (8.9”) W x 14.5 cm (5.7”) H x 4.2 cm (1.6”) D that can withstand significant abuse. In fact, the FieldBook is environmentally protected, being able to operate at temperatures ranging between -20C and +50C, as well as in conditions of rain and dust storms. The tablet can also survive repeated drops, which makes it especially useful on the field.

“FieldBook is perfect for all manner of field computing, maintenance and communication applications including military command and control, field maintenance and monitoring with geo-location, interactive electronic technical manuals (IETMs), remote facility monitoring, portable test, public utility monitoring and maintenance, inventory control, logistics and emergency services data and position exchange,” the press release reveals.
