Good news boys and girls, Lode Runner is not dead, nor dreaming, but jumping and bombing with a vengeance. And who else would be suitable to publish such a retro block buster if not the ever inventive Nintendo?

As stated by the latest issue of Famitsu via IGN translation, Hudson developers are reviving the NES classic for the DS, due for release in Japan on October 26. Having already pledged TurboGrafx games to Nintendo's Virtual Console system, devs go on another incursion in the forgotten areas of its back-catalogue. Hudson will bring Lode Runner to the handheld console in all its former glory; double the fun with new play modes and the required graphical updates.

Taking advantage of the Dual Screen technology, the top screen features the entire map while the lower screen zooms closer into the action. The game will reportedly feature the old NES Lode Runner game as well as latest challenge of Championship Lode Runner. Stuffed with improved new puzzle modes which do away with enemies at a time limit, a sharing feature, Arranged Mode and Pop Style Mode, there's bound to be something to satisfy your gaming tastes. Famitsu hints the game is more than a mere update yet it is still unknown if you'll be able to use the stylus for controls or not.
