iPhone navigation app Localscope has been promoted to version 2.3 to add new sources, including Wikipedia and CitySearch, as well as to introduce some features by popular demand.

The Wikipedia integration allows you to “search for and discover relevant information around you from the world's largest encyclopedia,” whereas CitySearch lets you “find restaurants, local businesses or services using the popular yellow pages infobase by Citigrid.”

Cynapse, the developers, are bringing back Google Local on popular demand. The company explains that, “Though the results [in Google Places] were reliable listings, users craved the bulk of information that they were other wise discovering with Google Local.”

“On popular demand, we are bringing back Google Local along with Google Places as 2 separate sources, with this release. Either can be independently enabled / disabled from the Source Manager screen,” says Cynapse.

The company has added three new pre defined search terms - Lawyer, Plumber and Bakery, as well as some new and improved icons. Lastly, the release comes with an updated Facebook API integration to fix search.

Localscope aggregates information from numerous other services, including Foursquare, YouTube, Instagram, Bing, Flickr, Picasa and others.

“Localscope is a window to your world that lets you see and know your locality like never before,” says Cynapse. “Discover and find people and places around you using geo-tagged information from multiple local search engines, social networks and media sharing services.”

Localscope has been named by Apple the best iPhone Navigation app in the App Store Rewind 2011, and has been featured by Apple in Staff Favorites, App of the Week, New & Noteworthy.

Localscope “speaks” several languages, according to Cynapse, including Arabic, Chinese - Simplified, Chinese - Traditional, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai and Turkish.
