Microsoft has recently released the second version of its Windows Mobile Live Search application. Live Search 2.0 includes several upgrades for the previous version, including some for the standalone Web-based client versions.

Windows Live Mobile Search is a free application addressed to users in the US and the UK. It is especially designed for use on handsets which work on Windows Mobile 2003 SE and up. Not only that, but it can also be used on J2ME enabled phones as well as on BlackBerry devices too.

There are some differences between the older version of this application and what it has to offer now. Live Search 2.0 promises to bring more local data and better directions for navigations than those provided by previous releases.

New features include movie showtimes and more reliable results from the Virtual Earth maps. Now, they have the option of increasing the cache by using a storage card, which has high chances of providing more reliable results in a shorter time. There is also support for in-phone GPS and improved turn-by-turn navigation.

One thing which many people will love to hear is that there will also be available a web-based version for the iPhone. Still, there is one bug which might make using the application more difficult than normally. "When you do a search, hit 'Go' on the soft-keyboard after entering your search terms as the normal search button is not active", said Microsoft. Moreover, they have promised to work on a release to solve this problem and do that for customer use on a short basis.

Live Search 2.0 can be downloaded for free from its website right onto mobile devices. Users can select the most appropriate version of the application as to perfectly match their handset and the software that it uses at the time of the download.
