AT&T to launch it for end users on October 18

Wireless carrier AT&T announced on Monday that it would soon make available for its users a new mobile phone running under Microsoft's recently launched Windows Mobile 6.5 operating system (following the availability of HTC Pure with the same OS on board), the HTC Tilt 2, and now a series of live images with the device have made it into the wild via Engadget.

Expected to be launched by the carrier on October 8, the HTC Tilt 2 has been reportedly put on sale only for the wireless carrier's business customers, and is expected to become available for purchase for end users as soon as October 18 is here. The device is none other than the already available HTC Touch Pro2, which can currently be purchased from T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon in the US (although Big Red has had it out of stock for the past weeks).

According to Engadget, the Tilt 2 is very much like the original HTC Touch Pro2, something that is a little unexpected, considering the fact that AT&T changed the original Touch Diamond 2 a lot in the process of turning it into HTC Pure. However, the HTC Tilt 2 seems to be a great option for business users out there, the same as the original device was said to be.

Here's what the news site says about Tilt 2: “We didn't have a ton of time to pore over the interface, but we get the impression that TouchFLO is largely intact (though tweaked by AT&T, naturally) and the keyboard's different than what you'll find on the generic European version - the top row is all symbols with a numeric pad (a little staggered, unfortunately) near the right side.”

You should take a look at the image gallery available with the HTC Tilt 2 to make an idea of what the handset should come to the market with. Hopefully, the October 18 release date will pan out for end users waiting for AT&T to put the phone on sale for them too, so stay tuned to learn additional info on this.
