More of a stress test

Sam_Protagonist, who is a developer on LittleBigPlanet, has posted on the PlayStation forums confirming that the game will get a beta in early October, as it nears its launch date.

While the beta is announced, it's not clear what you need to do to get in. The developer has said that "If it will be possible to 'sign up' for this test, full information on how to do so will be made public in advance of the test. Similarly if the test is going to be conducted in an invitation-only we will let you know ahead of time." So, watch for more news on the subject.

The beta is not designed to test the way the game performs, as actual development is pretty much done at this point, but to see how the "sharing" element of the game holds up. The idea is that any user generated content in the game can be put up on the Internet so that other users can download it and then use it in their game. You can lock a piece of content so that just users you trust can get it or you can make it public and share it with the world.

The guys at Media Molecule are pointing out the fact that the game is not only a tool for level creation by the gamer. The developers have already put together a huge amount of content that you can enjoy out of the box, even before you begin to wrap your head around what you need to do to make your own levels.

The game is set to be released for the PlayStation 3 on October 29. The title might prove to be one of the biggest hits for the PlayStation 3 this fall, mainly because it provides a very interesting and powerful way of engaging in social gaming.
