Your custom levels could help you find work in the gaming industry

There's a lot of hype around the upcoming LittleBigPlanet title. For those of you who don't know, LBP is exclusively developed for the PlayStation 3 with Sony heavily promoting it, and it is a puzzle platformer game that allows players to create their own characters, levels and worlds. They will control a Sackboy or Sackgirl, both of which can almost completely manipulate the environments around them.

One of the interesting features of the game is the wide array of options when it comes to the interaction between players, who can share their custom creations and levels on the PlayStation Network, so that everyone can see and play through their content for the game. This opportunity for gamers to design their own custom creations has been the main subject of discussion for the art director of LBP, Kareem Ettouney, who said that, in his opinion, it can be a launching pad for players looking to work in the gaming industry.

"I think this game can definitely help people get jobs in the industry. Imagine a guy going into a job with five levels of LittleBigPlanet and you get to play his creation. But not only that, imagine what that guy has already done within that world in terms of building up an audience. People know his levels and know his name. They want to see his new creation. Future game creators will enter a job interview already known. We hope LittleBigPlanet plays a part in getting new game developers jobs and also making them stars." Ettouney stated for VentureBeat.

Now, don't start thinking that if you create a few levels for the game, all of the major developers will fight over you. The big companies will take a look at the most popular levels and analyze them in terms of innovation or practicality. Don't think that if your level is cool enough it will land you a job at Electronic Arts or Nintendo. Also, we still have to wait for this little game until October, so, wannabe game designers, get ready!
