Even though Blu-ray is, more or less, the means by which Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels resolution) videos are propagated, DVDs are still much more widespread. This, of course, makes a DVD writer or DVD player an integral part of any HTPC system or PC. Lite-On, of course, knows this, and naturally wishes to make the best of the opportunity provided by these marketing conditions. As such, it was quite eager to introduce what is probably one of the fastest DVD burners on the market.

Whether the Lite-On iHAS524, as it is called, genuinely is one of the fastest on sale may not be completely proven, but the device is, at the very least, the fastest in its maker's own portfolio. This is made obvious by its ability to actually scribe data on such disks at 24x rates. More specifically, it can write at 24x for DVD+R/-R, 8x for DVD+RW, 6x for DVD-RW and 12x for DVD-RAM, DVD+R/-R DL. Furthermore, the writing process is achieved accurately and smoothly thanks to the 2MB of cache memory.

The company didn't just limit itself to speed though. In fact, it decided to add as many features as it could to its new creation, in order to make it even more appealing. For instance, it threw in the Smart-Burn and Smart-X technologies that optimize the writing process itself. The feature that stands out the most, however, is the LabelTag. Essentially, this capability lets the drive put a circular text label on the data side of a regular, single-layer disk. Lite-On just sent this iHAS524 DVD butner, designed for the SATA interface, to US stores, and asks for $39.99 in exchange for it.

"We've been looking forward to the introduction of our LabelTag technology and are proud to offer it to our consumers," said Christine Hsing, Marketing Manager at PLDS. "By offering write speeds up to 24X, combined with the convenience of LabelTag and an affordable price of $39.99 MSRP, the iHAS524 stands out in the crowd and is a must-have device."
