As you might have found out from some of our previous articles, PLDS (the joint venture between Lite-On and Royal Philips) has managed to come up with some pretty interesting Blu-ray products lately, in an attempt to establish itself as a household name on the Blu-ray peripherals' market. Furthermore, it has even updated its internal unit, which will now be able to write at speeds of up to 4X.

However, that's not the subject of this article. Actually, what we're going to talk about as follows is the external drive (DX-4O1S), a device that will most likely enjoy quite a high level of success, especially among those early adopters just dying to get their hands on the latest available technology.

The Lite-On DX-4O1S external BD-ROM is a universal playback device that can read numerous optical media formats, including BD-R/RE/ROM, single layer and double layer, at 4X maximum. It can read single layer DVD?R or DVD-ROM at 12X max, while double layer DVD?R and single layer DVD?RW can be read at 8X max. Furthermore, the CD-R/RW/ROM can be read at 32X maximum speed.

Moreover, as you can see from the photos, the device has a stylish black & white casing, which grants it a very modern and trendy look. Thus, this thing will most certainly be a very attractive addition to one's laptop, even from the aesthetic point of view.

Another very good piece of news for all the users who are seriously thinking about purchasing this product is the one related to the pricing. Thus, from our discussion with Mr. Jelmer Veldman, Manager Marketing for PLDS, we've understood that the product will retail for under 300 Euro, which might seem like a bit of a high price at first, but it's really not that bad, given just how useful this thing could be around a notebook or desktop PC (unfortunately, Mac users are not at all lucky, since the device doesn't work with the computers manufactured by the company from Cupertino).

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there. That's why we thought it would be a good idea to create an email address for you to help us a little in finding gadgets we missed. Interesting links are bound to be posted with recognition going mainly to those who submit. The address is .
