It’s almost official: “The Twilight Saga” doesn’t end with “Breaking Dawn Part 2,” which comes out later this year. On the condition that Stephenie Meyer writes a fifth book, Lionsgate is open to making more movies.

During a press call yesterday, Summit co-founder and now Lionsgate executive Rob Friedman, revealed that the studio was more than open to the idea of more movies with the Cullens, The Hollywood Reporter informs.

However, there’s a big “if” involved: the studio will only make more movies for the franchise if Meyer gets back to the characters and writes another novel, a fifth (for the time being at least).

“If she (Meyer) wishes to do it, we’ll be there to support her,” Friedman said.

He’s not the only “suit” to speak of the (high) possibility of more “Twilight” movies either: a while back, after Lionsgate acquired Summit, CEO Jon Feltheimer also said the franchise would most likely not end in 2012, when the fifth film comes out.

At the time, he stressed that “Twilight” made too much money to be put down just like that, and that it could possibly return in some form or another, either on TV or on the big screen but in a slightly different form.

For the time being, Meyer hasn’t said anything about her plans of returning to the “Twilight” universe to pen another book, but she made sure she left that door open in her older interview, in which she explained her decision to stop writing about the Cullens after “Breaking Dawn.”

“I am a little burned out on vampires right now. I think I need a little break. I might go spend some time with my aliens. I might do something completely different. I’ve got to cleanse the palate,” she told her fans.

“I may come back to it. I did envision it as a longer series. But I wrapped Breaking Dawn in a way that I felt satisfied with, so if that moment didn’t come, I’d be okay,” she added.

At one point, she was writing “Midnight Sun,” which was “Twilight” as told through the eyes of Edward Cullen. She dumped the project when 12 chapters of the unfinished version leaked online.
