Lionesses delivered a total of four cubs in November, are taking care of them together

Two lionesses living in captivity at Zoo Basel in Switzerland have recently delivered a total of four male cubs, and are now looking after them together.

Staff at the facility say the cubs were born on November 9 and November 13 and that, because Okoa and Uma shared a whelping box, it's quite impossible to tell which cub belongs to which lioness.

According to Zoo Borns, vets had a chance to examine the cubs this past December 16.

They found that they were all healthy and that, thanks to their having not one, but two moms, their bellies were quite full. Still, just to be on the safe side, they administered them de-worming medication.

Interestingly enough, it appears that the lion cubs' dad, Mbali, has been given permission to spend some quality time with its offspring.

Thus, neither Okoa, nor Uma has chased it away from the whelping box, and have even allowed it to lie next to them.

Should things go as planned, it will only be a few days until the cubs venture in the outdoor enclosure for the first time. When this happens, visitors to Zoo Basel will be able to have a good look at them.
