Staff at Zoo Miami are happy to announce that, last week, a lioness and a baby lion living in captivity at this facility emerged from their den and made their public debut.

According to Zoo Borns, the lion cub is now just three months old. Vets who have had the chance to examine it say that it is a boy, and its caretakers have named it K'wasi.

The same source tells us that the cub was born to mom Asha. Despite the fact that K'wasi is its first cub, the lioness appears to be doing a good job looking after it.

Granted, the baby lion did experience some health problems during its first few months of life, i.e. it developed some bacterial infections and ended up losing a considerable amount of weight, but staff at the zoo say that it is now healthy and active.

Thus, it would appear that all the extra food that the cub was offered when it was younger has done its job to get it back on its paws.

The lion cub and its mom appear to have bonded well with one another and, judging by the look on Asha's face in the picture above, whoever might wish to hurt K'wasi would do well to prepare for a fierce fight.
