Swiss company ImCoSys has announced its latest Linux-based smartphone.

The device is quadband, it operates on GSM (850/900/1800/1900) networks and integrates GPS receiver, WiFi (802.11b), GPRS Class 10, EDGE and Bluetooth 1.2 connectivity.

The phone has a PDA-like "transflective" LCD-TFT touchscreen display supporting 262K colors and QVGA (240 x 320) resolutions. In addition, the connectivity options include a USB port, and a strange RS232 serial port. The 200MHz TI OMAP 730 processor from Texas Instruments provides the necessary computational power, with 64MB ROM/64MB RAM for memory. The ImCoSys device measures 125 x 64 x 18 mm, and uses a lithium-ion battery of unknown size.

As for the software it integrates, the ImCoSys phone runs a Linux 2.4.20 kernel, along with user-interface software supporting German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish.

Other features include a Web/WAP 2.0 browser, Java runtime (MIDP 2.0), push/pop/smtp email client, SMS/MMS message client, calendar, calculator, world clock, and memo applications.

The ImCoSys phone will be shown at the CeBIT and is expected to reach the market in June, for approximately 350 USD.
