The age of “smart”, Internet-connected home appliances seems to be getting closer and closer, and we're not talking just about TVs here, since Electrolux has just outed in Brazil the Infinity I-Kitchen, a refrigerator that not only allows users to access the Internet, but also various Linux applications as well. This first of its kind appliance has been developed by the famous consumer electronics manufacturer together with Brazilian subsidiary and ProFusion embedded systems, and comes equipped with a touchscreen controller, allowing users to easily access the various available applications. The display has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, the hardware behind it apparently being a Freescale i.MX25 processor running at 400Mhz with 128MB RAM, which makes it powerful enough to run certain basic applications. According to Electrolux, the interactive touch screen monitor will be able to offer users access to more than 600 suggestions for the preparation of dishes and drinks, as well as access to Orkut, Calendar, Contacts and Phone (as you've probably guessed already, this thing can also be easily connected to the Internet). Moreover, it seems that the refrigerator's screen will also support the display of digital photos, as well as a Notes application, which will help users get rid of all those Post-Its that typically “adorn” most such appliances. While Electrolux's not saying anything about it, we'd love to see the device feature an application that would allow users to keep an inventory of their refrigerator's contents and perhaps even notify them whenever certain items have been depleted and a visit to the grocery store is in order.

Unfortunately, pricing details for this thing have not been yet provided, and the same goes for availability, but, in any case, do expect this thing to be a whole lot more expensive than your average refrigerator.
