None other than Clement Lefebvre announced a last evening, October 18th, the Release Candidate version of the next major version of Linux Mint 10. Dubbed Julia and based on the newly released Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) operating system, Linux Mint 10 will feature Linux kernel 2.6.35, GNOME 2.32 and X.Org 7.5.

New in Linux Mint 10 is a very useful welcome screen, that allows you to install various audio/video codecs or upgrade your system to the DVD edition.

Linux Mint 10 brings a new look and feel for its users. The development team dumped the old green/dark Shiki theme for a traditional light theme with a dark background. The new theme in Linux Mint 10 is called Mint-X and it has a brushed metal look! The Mint-X icon theme is also included.
