The latest version of the stable Linux kernel, 3.14.5, has been announced by Greg Kroah-Hartman and comes with quite a few changes and improvements, including some new drivers.

The previous build released for this Linux kernel was not as large as this one, and it seems that every new version starts bringing even more support from the developers. After a slow start, this branch of the kernel has picked up a little Steam and more changes are being made.

“I'm announcing the release of the 3.14.5 kernel. All users of the 3.14 kernel series must upgrade.”

“The updated 3.14.y git tree can be found at: git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git linux-3.14.y and can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary,” Greg Kroah-Hartman said in the email announcement.

According to the changelog, JIT address randomization has been fixed, the ns_capable check has been fixed in sock_diag_put_filterinfo, a reference counting imbalance that occurred while sending a fragment has been corrected, the local TT check for outgoing arp requests in DAT has been fixed, Sierra Wireless EM7355, MC73xx, MC7305/MC7355 serial IDs have been added, a problem in the tcindex filter has been repaired, support for Telit UE910v2 has been implemented, and ID's for Surface Type/Touch Cover 2 have been added.

Also, the current target reap infrastructure has been fixed, the range of delayed_ack has been repaired, the NLA extensions can no longer peek beyond the end of the message, an ID for Brainboxes serial cards has been added, the spinlock variant has been fixed, a query buffer locking order violation has been corrected, the debug_fs files are now removed when the module init fails, the lockdep warnings that are shown with stacked macvlan devices have been fixed, and a uprobe_cpu_buffer memory leak has been repaired.

If you are using any of the versions released until now in the Linux kernel 3.13.x branch, you should consider an update to this build, as that particular branch is now End of Life. It's also possible to use the latest Linux kernel 3.15 RC, if you really feel adventurous.

Linux kernel 3.14 features, among other things, better Intel Broadwell graphics support, various Radeon improvements, Nouveau improvements (support for new GPUs from NVIDIA), quite a few Btrfs changes, and even NVIDIA Tegra PRIME support.

A complete list of commits in this branch of the kernel can be found in the official announcement. You can download Linux kernel 3.14.5 right now from Softpedia.
