After having announced the release of Linux kernel 4.0.2, Linux kernel 3.19.7, and Linux kernel 3.14.41 LTS, Greg Kroah-Hartman has revealed that the seventy-seven maintenance version of Linux 3.10 kernel is available for download and all users of the 3.10 kernel branch must upgrade as soon as possible.

According to the release notes, Linux Kernel 3.10.77, which is an LTS (Long Term Support) version, is a small update that fixes several issues discovered in the ARM, ARM64, MIPS, PowerPC (PPC), c6x, s390, SPARC, unicore32, x86, and Xtensa hardware architectures, addresses a couple of problems in the Btrfs and EXT4 file systems, as well as improves the networking (IPv4) and sound infrastructures.

"I'm announcing the release of the 3.10.77 kernel. All users of the 3.10 kernel series must upgrade," says Greg Kroah-Hartman in an email to the kernel mailinglist. "The updated 3.10.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."

Lots of drivers have been updated in Linux kernel 3.10.77 LTS

In addition to the Arch, networking, sound, and filesystem improvements, Linux kernel 3.10.77 LTS includes lots of updated drivers, especially for GPU (Intel i915), I2C, InfiniBand, Memory Stick, Parallel Port, MTD, SCSI, USB, and networking (Ethernet and Wireless). Miscellaneous issues with ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface), Power, and KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) have been repaired as well.

If you have knowledge as far as compiling a Linux kernel is concerned, especially if you're a distribution developer, you can download Linux kernel 3.10.77 LTS right now via Softpedia or directly from the kernel.org website. Otherwise, we strongly recommend that you wait for your Linux OS vendors to update the kernel packages.
