Linksys today announced that its latest product - Linksys Wireless-G Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) Internet Camera with Audio (WVC200) - can already be purchased on retail market, according to Hardware Zone.

The manufacturer stated that its PTZ Internet Camera contains its own IP address and, consequently, unlike standard "web cams", it doesn't have to be hooked with a PC. The WVC200 also includes an LCD screen on the front of the camera, which has been developed to display the IP address in order to enable the user to manage easily several cameras. In addition, up to 10 simultaneous users can have access to the camera when they want and how they want.

The WVC200 supports MJPEG compression for video, but also the advanced MPEG-4 video compression, which is said to produce a high-quality, high-frame rate, 640x480 video stream.

"We've designed a camera that provides small businesses the tool they need to monitor their office during businesses hours or while they are away," said Sanjeev Gupta, Linksys regional sales director for Asia Pacific. "The camera can be accessed over the Internet, enabling the office to be remotely monitored. Users can be alerted by email or phone when unexpected movement has occurred after hours, eliminating the need to actively monitor the camera. It's an ideal solution for providing peace of mind at the price small business budgets can afford."

But Linksys Internet Camera features several other functions such as Infrared (IR) cut filter which is meant to enable the user to see images in low or no light environments when an external IR lamp is used. Moreover, snapshots (in JPEG format) of the image can be taken, saved, and then sent to a FTP server.

The Linksys Wireless-G PTZ Internet Camera with Audio (WVC200) is already available through authorized distributors, key retailers and value-added resellers for an estimated street price of $459.
