Video game publisher Electronic Arts and rock band Linkin Park have announced that they will be collaborating on the in game soundtrack for the upcoming Medal of Honor first person shooter. The first result of them working together will be a new trailer for the video game which will feature “The Catalyst”, the new single that the band has taken off their album “A Thousand Suns”, which comes on September 14, as the background and will be directed by Joe Hahn, the man behind the videos of Linkin Park. The new trailer will debut on August 1 and will be the first chance to listen to the new single before it comes out on iTunes one day later.

Steve Schnur, who is the worldwide executive in charge of Music and Music Marketing at EA, stated, “Medal of Honor marks the beginning of an innovative new relationship between EA and Linkin Park. I’ve personally known the band since 1999, and they have always been an intensely creative group who understand the power of videogames and have wanted to explore and expand the medium’s possibilities. ‘The Catalyst’ is one of the most anticipated tracks of the year, and the combination of this new song and Joe Hahn’s distinctive visual dynamic re-sets the bar in our commitment to bringing together landmark EA games with artists whose talents go far beyond music.” The same level of interest in the collaboration has been expressed by Joe Hahn.

Medal of Honor is set to be launched on October 12 in North America for the Xbox 360 from Microsoft, the PlayStation 3 and the PC. Electronic Arts is saying that the game is being reinvented, with EALA taking care of the single player component and with DICE working on the multiplayer modes. The new experience takes place in modern times in Afghanistan and focuses on the elite military Tier 1 Operators who take on the most secret and toughest missions.
