Users from the Insidepro forum, the website on which the 6.5 million LinkedIn passwords have been published, reveal that the data breach may have occurred a long time ago.

According to SC Magazine, some LinkedIn members have noticed that the passwords from the leak are actually their old ones which they’ve changed six to nine months ago.

Furthermore, others claim that the hack may have taken place at the beginning of 2012 when someone identified an SQL Injection vulnerability on the social media website.

LinkedIn representatives couldn’t comment on these reports because of the ongoing investigation, but they reinforce the fact that they've acted as soon as the news broke out.

The popular Internet radio Last.fm is in a similar situation after a security expert has revealed that the recently uncovered passwords have been around for over a year.
