Today, Nokia officially announced that the owners of Nokia Asha 501 and other Asha full-touch smartphones can now take advantage of a LinkedIn application.

The new software was designed so as to provide owners of these handsets with the most popular features that LinkedIn has in store for its users.

For those out of the loop, we should note that the LinkedIn tool is already used by millions of professional people around the world, as a recent post on Nokia Conversations explains.

“The world’s largest professional network on the Internet offers easy ways to connect with old and new business contacts, keep up to date with what’s going on in your industry, and find out more about peers you haven’t met yet, as a chance to prepare for meetings and expand your professional network.”

Some of the main features that the new application arrives on Asha phones with include Update Stream, Inbox, Search, and access to one’s profile.

Basically, the application won’t simply enable users to stay up to date with their network and access information about their industry, but it will also provide them with the possibility to like, comment, and share updates, all straight from their smartphones.

Additionally, the software allows them to easily accept connection requests and communicate with contacts, to check their own profiles, and to search through a global network of over 225 million LinkedIn members.

“We really wanted to design something for ambitious people on the go,” LinkedIn’s Giovanni Iachello, responsible for international product management, reportedly said.

“What we always try to do with mobile applications is design something that’s consistent with the user experience on the website itself, but something that’s really useful for people in transit as well.”

The new application was made available for download in six languages, including English, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Malaysia, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish. The app can be grabbed for free through the Nokia Store on handsets such as Nokia Asha 501, 305, 306, 308, 309, 310, and 311.

“If you’re going into a meeting with somebody and want to look them up, it’s easy to search and find out all about them from your Asha touch device,” Giovanni Iachello said.

“It’s a way to reach our members in emerging markets, by offering a feature-rich app on devices that are readily available and affordable in many markets. It allows us to work where our members work.”
