14 DAY TRIAL // Amidst reports that she spent most of her fortune on her extravagant lifestyle and after she admitted herself that her stint at Betty Ford Clinic has bled her dry, Lindsay Lohan has now turned to tweeting for the occasional extra buck, it has emerged.
The other day, Lindsay’s Twitter page was updated with only one message – which is odd on two counts: first, she’s in rehab and she’s reportedly not allowed access to her BlackBerry, and secondly, the tweet is actually an ad.
“50% off on Gift Card..Great gift...Today only. Hurry,” reads the tweet, also including a link and the mention that it’s an ad.
While it’s not uncommon for celebrities to allow ads on their page to promote certain products or offers to their followers, the Daily Mail says Lohan is desperate to do so because she needs the money, regardless where it may come from.
Admittedly, the actress, who was once rated as the most promising of her generation, gets anywhere between $2,000 and $10,000 for a single tweet, even though the company behind the latest will not admit to it.
“We do not work directly with Lindsay, nor have any direct affiliation with her. She belongs to a promotion network, Mylikes, where TaDa publishes its sale content,” Mary Yee, VP of Marketing at Shopzilla Inc, owners of TaDa, said.
Yee even hints that it must have been Lindsay’s idea to tweet. “Lindsay must have seen our sale today, liked it, and chose to promote it,” she says.
However, the Daily Mail reports word has it Lohan is in such a dire financial condition she’ll do even the smallest and oddest job to make some money. Since other celebs are also doing this tweet thing, why can’t she.
“Other celebrities who are featured on the promotional network are Snoop Dogg, Khloe Kardashian, Audrina Patridge and Jon Gosselin,” the Mail has learned.
“Lindsay has previously Tweeted diet aids and fashion websites like Beyond The Rack and Fashion Bay and has been estimated to make somewhere between $2,985 and $10,000 to promote products to her more than 1.4 million Twitter followers,” the tab says.
Lindsay Lohan has been ordered to rehab instead of jail for her DUI convictions – and she’ll remain at the (expensive) Betty Ford Clinic until January 3.
