On Friday, Lindsay Lohan spent about 5 hours in jail after being sentenced to 120 days for parole violation. She is now free, awaiting sentencing on the theft charge, but she strongly believes she’s persecuted for being a celebrity.

Friends of the actress have spoken to PopEater (and a few other media outlets), revealing that Lindsay is deeply offended by the way in which the judge assigned to her case is treating her.

Admittedly, she believes the judge is trying to make an example out of her because she’s a celebrity – what is even more outrageous is the fact that Lindsay is innocent.

She didn’t steal that $2,500 gold necklace, she’s been telling friends, so she can’t understand why she’s already been sentenced to jail.

“She is being treated differently from everyone else because she is famous,” a friend of Lindsay’s says for the aforementioned e-zine.

Because she’s innocent, she didn’t expect to be handed a prison sentence just like that.

“We were all in shock when she was forced to return to jail just to make an example out of her. It’s not right. Especially when she is working so hard to live a healthy life,” the friend stresses.

“She is innocent and can’t understand what is going on. She didn’t steal any necklace and will be found innocent,” adds the source.

The judge is throwing the book at Lindsay solely because she’s famous, the insider is convinced. And Lindsay believes the same.

“It’s obvious this is only happening because she is famous and anyone that thinks celebrities get away with stuff or let off will think again after seeing this,” the friend explains.

On the other hand, Dan Abrams, ABC News legal analyst and founder of Mediaite.com, points out that Lohan is getting the treatment customary in cases like hers: she’s been sentenced for parole violation because that’s standard procedure.

Therefore, she has no reason for telling people she’s victim to a witch hunt.
