A limited edition of the new GoldenEye game has been announced by Activision with a neat and potentially useful pack-in. Rather than include something that can't be used with the game and will just sit on a shelf collecting dust, the Classic Edition of the game will include a customized, gold-colored Classic Controller Pro.

A lot of people were surprised when Activision announced that it was preparing to launch a remake of its classic title GoldenEye 007, coming to the Nintendo Wii home console and to the Nintendo DS.

Now the publisher is dialing up the nostalgia factor and the link to the James Bond franchise by introducing a game package which includes a golden Classic Controller for the Wii.

The move is intended as a direct homage to the Bond movie series and The Man with the Golden Gun installment, which features a weapon fully made out of the precious metal.

It would have been interesting for Activision to actually include a golden Wii Zapper in the GoldenEye 007 package but those handling the launch of the new game probably judged the Classic Controller as being more used to the player than a gun which would just sit on a shelf most of the time.

David Pokress, an executive at Activision, has said, “In addition to the Wii Remote and Nunchuk, GoldenEye will also support the Wii Zapper for 'point and shoot' gamers, giving players several ways to experience GoldenEye on Wii”.

He added, “We also couldn't pass up the opportunity to pay homage to the golden gun with the gold Classic Controller Pro, which looks cool and also gives shooter fans a familiar control scheme to use as they blast their way through the game.”

GoldenEye 007 is set to be launched on November 2 of this year. The Limited Edition will come at the same time but a price points has not been announced.
