The time he served in jail doesn't seem to have passed fruitlessly for rapper Lil Boosie. During his four-year stay behind bars, he worked assiduously on polishing his rapping skills, as well as working on new material, something which could be regarded as a model for other rappers out there that have run-ins with the law.

Billboard is reporting that Boosie, real name Torence Hatch, put to very good use his time spent at the maximum security prison at Angola. In four years of served time, he boasts that he wrote more than 1,000 songs that he now plans to release.

At the beginning of the week, on Monday, recently free rapper Lil Boosie held a press conference at a hotel in New Orleans, in which he opened up about his future plans. At that moment, he said he planned to reacquaint himself with his seven children, but that he also intended to head back to the studio as soon as possible.

The rapper revealed his softer side when he told reporters at the W Hotel in New Orleans, “You can’t expect someone to come home and not feed his family,” meaning that the work he did while incarcerated was for the good of his family.

That's because his drug conviction didn't stop his creative juices from flowing, and he had nothing but time on his hands. The 31-year-old rapper also claimed that the time he spent in jail made him “a better person,” but that he wanted to focus on his career and putting out high-quality songs about the dirty south that his fans love and miss.

Boosie boasted that after listening to some of today's rap music, he thought that the music stage was “wide open” for him to jump back in and become one of the most important rap stars of our times.

Believe it or not, but one of the songs he wrote in jail was created especially for Justin Bieber, as the rapper claims that he's keen for a collaboration with the Canadian pop star who's made it clear he's now aiming for a hip-hop career and a departure from his pop roots.

It was evident that Lil Boosie didn't waste any time in jail, as he revealed an intricate freestyle video taken on the car ride home from the prison which he later posted on YouTube for his fans to enjoy.
